Sexual Improvements Seen Within Six Months of Bariatric Surgery
Severely obese women who undergo bariatric surgery may be having better sex within six months, experts report in a Sexual Medicine study.
Researchers worked with a group of 62 Brazilian women. Before surgery, 62% of the participants met the criteria for sexual dysfunction diagnosis based on the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), which assesses desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain.
Six months after surgery, the percentage fell to 19%. Improvements were made in all FSFI domains, but the orgasm and satisfaction categories had the greatest gains.
The women also engaged in three sexual positions more frequently after weight loss surgery.
