Kent Food Safety Updates

Changes to training courses

You may have heard in the news, that from April the CIEH will not be offering accredited training qualifications anymore. This was a big announcement as they are one of the larger awarding bodies that offer accredited food hygiene courses.

There will be no change to the courses that we offer. We will simply be offering courses from a different awarding body, such as HABC or RSPH. Both these awarding bodies offer a full range of courses, accredited to the same level; a HABC Level 2 Award in Food Safety Certificate has the same worth as one from RSPH or HABC. The only difference you will  notice will be the badge that is on your certificate, existing certificates will still be recognised, but no further bookings can be made for CIEH courses. We will updating our website shortly to reflect the courses that we will offer going forward.

We will still remind you when it would be recommended to do a refresher course.

Food Safety Audits

Food hygiene ratings for food businesses have been around for a while now, but it is still only recommended that you display them. In Wales and Northern Ireland it is now a legal requirement that ratings are displayed, and there is increasing talk that it will become a legal requirement in England too.

One of the easiest ways of improving your hygiene rating is to ensure you have an effective food safety management system in place.

We can help with this; we offer a food safety audit to give you peace of mind. Our audits are based on the FSA food hygiene ratings guidance and will give you a report which outlines what parts of your food safety management system require improvement. The audits are usually carried out unannounced to give you a true reflection of the current food hygiene practices in your business. The audit usually takes approximately 2.5 - 3 hours, after which a briefing is given to the duty manager to summarize the main findings of the audit. A full audit report and action plan is provided by email within 24 hours of the audit being carried out. If you would like more information on this service, please email us at; http://kentfoodsafety.co.uk/contact-us/
