Darlington Arts Festival 2019

Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November
If you've never made it to this annual festival, then try your best to make some time this year, because there's going to be so much going on, including several new attractions to explore, such as the Sculptures in the Scarp exhibition (think Cottesloe but in among the trees) and the Community Wall Mural - Paint a Brick - where a design will be outlined on a brick wall and everyone will be invited to ‘paint-a-brick’ over the weekend. 

This year's Artisan Marketplace has over 100 stalls and the new layout will make doing all your Christmas shopping a pleasurable experience!  

The festival kicks off 10am on Saturday and runs through the weekend. Check out the festival Facebook page to find out all about what this year's festival has in store.

Mojo Makers hit the mark for Mundaring!

Congratulations to Cafe Mojo Mundaring for taking out a Telstra Business Award in the 2019 State Awards recently.

If you haven't visited this funky little cafe yet, be sure to check it out very soon.

Gallery 1 - Surface Tension
Ceramic artists Stephanie Hammill and Andrea Vinkovic explore how clay transforms when interacting with other materials and echoes the journey of discovery, collaboration and skill sharing these senior practitioners have undertaken over the past two years. 

Gallery 2- Things with Wings
Explores the role of pollinators in ecosystems, with a focus on local native birds, bats and insects, school children from across the eastern region have explored the theme Things with Wings for the Mundaring Environmental Art Project.

Mundaring Weir Hotel proudly presents - Dawn of the King Medieval Festival and Feast

Saturday 2 November
Join the King for a festive day and night of feasting to celebrate the overthrowing of the dread king at his castle at the Mundaring Weir Hotel. Watch the kings' knights do battle in full armour, experience what it feels like to try on the knights' armour, see and hold birds of prey and so much more! Marloo Theatre proudly presents Les Miserables

Set in early 19th-century France, Les Misérables is the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant and his desire for redemption, after serving nineteen years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister's starving child. Valjean decides to break his parole and start his life anew after a bishop inspires him by a tremendous act of mercy, but he is relentlessly tracked down by a police inspector named Javert. Along the way, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists attempt to overthrow the government at a street barricade.

Mundaring Folk n Blues Club - final show for this year!

This month the Club welcomes WA's longest surviving and premier "shanty" team the larriking 7 member ensemble the FO'C'SLE FIRKINS bringing the memory of the bygone days of tall ships to life with their authentic, hardcore seafaring songs and work shanties.
Support acts include the trio "Chinwag" providing a more contemporary flavour with the keyboard, guitar and vocal harmonies of Derrick and Sue Nichols and harmonica of Russel Jenkins.

Mundaring Hills Historical Society presents a talk by Dr Lenore Layman

Saturday 16 November
You are invited to a floral-themed historical talk presented by Dr Lenore Layman, an Australian historian, now retired, who enjoys researching and writing about aspects of Western Australian history.

Lenore will talk about Margaret Forrest. Not only was she the wife of the powerful colonial and federal politician John Forrest, she was also a loving member of the large Hamersley and Forrest families, and, last but not least, a much admired wildflower artist. Join Surface Tension artist Andrea Vinkovic to hand build your own sculpture in clay. Andrea’s ceramic sculptures are inspired by microscopic images of pollens, planktons, molecules and natural structures. Her skill and love of this natural ancient material is sure to have you exploring your ideas in 3D.

Works will be glazed and fired by MAC technician (choice of clear or white) and available for collection 17 – 22 December.
