Temporary Closure of South Bank's Streets Beach

South Bank Parklands' Streets Beach will undergo essential maintenance works from 15 May until late September 2017 (weather permitting). To ensure that the works are carried out safely, the water and sand will be closed to visitors during this period.

The works will replace Streets Beach’s lining and will ensure that it remains safe and structurally sound for the years to come. The new lining colour will also enhance safety by improving visibility in the pool.

Works will generally occur from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. To ensure that the beach is re-opened as soon as possible for visitors, night works will also occur and some weekend work if required.

South Bank’s other free water facilities, the Boat Pool and Aquativity, remain open during the works for visitors to enjoy.

If you have any questions, please contact South Bank on vicsouthbank@brisbanemarketing.com.au.

Brisbane Metro Update

Yesterday, Business South Bank (BSB) members heard from Maree Kovacevic, Project Director, Brisbane Metro, Brisbane City Council, who delivered a brief on the revised plans for the Brisbane Metro project.

Brisbane Metro will run over 21 kilometres linking Eight Mile Plains, RBWH and UQ Lakes busway stations using existing busway infrastructure. The alignment will feature two new high capacity, high frequency Metro lines:
     •   Metro 1 – Eight Mile Plains busway station to Roma Street busway station
     •   Metro 2 – RBWH busway station to UQ Lakes busway station.

The project will include a Cultural Centre underground station, in addition to the existing busway. Victoria Bridge will be closed to private vehicles as a result of the project.

Brisbane Metro will include a fleet of around 60 bi-articulated rubber-tyred Metro vehicles, each with a passenger capacity of 150.

For more information, visit Brisbane City Council's Brisbane Metro website.
