COMING IN SUMMER 2024Paid Opportunities for Summer Research Training at Rice University

In the summer of 2024, Rice University will host a research program for undergraduates that is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). For details, see the REU website: https://pd28.blogs.rice.edu/  Application deadline is January 8, 2024   

Undergraduates will work closely with a faculty member at Rice University on behavioral research that has clear applications to real-world problems. Examples of topics include: aging, cybersecurity, driving, education and training, election integrity, emotional regulation in caregivers, employee resilience, future of work, health care and patient safety, health psychology, hiring decisions, human-AI collaboration, human-computer interaction, memory in people with and without illness, leadership, multisensory integration in collision avoidance, physiological impacts of spousal bereavement, teamwork, usability, and workplace discrimination.

Synapse empowers undergraduates to work together to serve individuals with brain injury through programs for their local community.

Full-time Research Position

The University of Pittsburgh’s Clinical Application of Neuroscience (CAN) Lab seeks applicants for NIMH-funded, full-time, year-round, in-person research staff positions for candidates with bachelor’s or master’s degrees in psychology, neuroscience, sociology, counseling, or related research field.

The positions provide research support in a laboratory conducting multi-dimensional studies of neural, cognitive, and affective aspects of emotional dysfunction and clinical trials research focused on novel neurocognitive treatments for adult depression, suicidality, anxiety, and compulsive behaviors, including trials using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, intravenous ketamine, and digital therapies.

Positions are available across a range of experience levels and at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels. A minimum job commitment of 2 years is strongly preferred.  Members of underrepresented minority groups in STEM are particularly encouraged to apply.

Full-time Research Assistant/Lab Manager, University of Maryland

The Laboratory for Integrative Cognition and Neuroscience (ICON lab, PI: Dr. Weizhen Xie) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland (College Park, MD) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant (RA) to work on studies examining memory and brain functions in a diverse population, including healthy adults across age groups as well as individuals with neurological and/or psychiatric conditions.

In this position, the RA will receive training in state-of-the-art behavioral research techniques (e.g., online crowdsourcing and computational modeling) and human neuroscience methods (e.g., intracranial/scalp EEG and fMRI) to study questions core to memory and cognition. As the RA gains experience with all components of the research process, it provides excellent preparation for one’s graduate studies. The RA's primary responsibilities will include:

  • Data collection using behavioral, electrophysiological, neuroimaging, and brain stimulation techniques on the University of Maryland, College Park campus.
  • Working with the staff at the University of Maryland Medical Center or at the National Institutes of Health to run study sessions that involve direct recordings of intracranial EEG data and computer-based behavior testing.
  • Data management, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
  • Lab administration including managing IRB protocols, participant recruitment and screening, and training other lab members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
