WELCOME TO ISSUE [68] OF FABRICATE

Dear staff,

Fabricate is the official student newsletter at the Melbourne School of Design. You are receiving this email as a current student or staff member of the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning. The cover image is of Cloud Gate, a public sculpture installed at Millennium Park within the Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois. The sculpture by Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor, often referred to as the bean - weighs 100 tons. It was constructed out of 168 stainless steel plates welded together, and is highly polished so that no seams are visible. This iconic and transformative work is said to challenge perception by distorting and deforming the surrounding architecture. The works of Kapoor is currently showing in a major exhibition on at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.
