making a change...

The Makeway Lab is an arts and health initiative that provides access to innovative technology and participatory programs to improve the well being of people in need.

Hospital Makerspace

The Australian Centre for Arts and Health (ACAH) has presented the Makeway Lab the 'Arts and Health in Primary and Acute Care Award'.  Through the award ACAH acknowledges the Makeway Lab as a unique hospital program that aims to improve patient well being and rehabilitation.

The Award was presented by Chris Mead, Artistic Director of Creature Tales

Art / Health Residency

From April to August the Makeway Lab took up residence at Spiral, Nambour  During the time we worked with the Spiral team to enhance their resident programs using the Makeway Lab's digital design and fabrication tools.

Check out this video showcasing the residency and Spiral's programs as part of the Horizon Festival, Sunshine Coast.

Desk Lamps

The Makeway Lab collaborated with Spiral's woodworkers to design and build a desk lamp using recycled materials.  A short run of lamps were made in time for the Spiral Pop-up Shop featured at The Old Ambulance Station in August. Two of the lamps sold and there is further interest from local suppliers.

3D Printed Block Prints

During the residency the Makeway Lab was used to 3D print extruded print blocks from the artists' 2D drawings. The resulting prints were exhibited in August and the process not only expands the Spiral's art program but also a practice that's been around since the fifth century BC!

Edutech, Brisbane

In June 3D Printing Systems invited the Makeway Lab to EduTech, Brisbane. EduTECH is the LARGEST education event in the Asia-Pacific attracting over 6600 people from across the education sector.

Thanks to Bruce and 3D Printing Systems for the opportunity. 3D Printing Systems are the Australian leaders in 3D Printing.
