6 week road trip epilogue

Wow! What a trip, our longest time on the road for several years.

First off, we made the drive from central Maryland to Coflax, WA in 2.5 days (our personal best), leaving Sat. at noon and arriving in Colfax on Monday at 11pm.

Beginning with our Palouse workshop, we continued on to our Creativity Seminar in SF, followed by a day long workshop on the coast, mostly on the Pescadero beaches.

Driving up the coast, we enjoyed a rare and welcome break in Bandon, OR, where we scouted for our 2017 Oregon Coast workshop. It felt truly liberating to do exactly what I wanted to do exactly when and how I wanted to do it for 5 days. Not bad. After a 10 year hiatus, it was great to be back to Bandon!

One of our favorite venues in the PNW is at the Pacific Northwest Art School in Coupeville on Whidbey Island, WA. We  had great weather for the workshop and for the following day iPhone class.

Next was our perennial South Dakota Badlands workshop. We had non stop epic clouds the entire time, pleasant temperatures, and post rain red teepees.

Now, we're getting ready for our last quarter beginning with our Sept. Ellis Island Tour, then to Iceland, then finally to Acadia for our last workshop of the year, but not our last event.

iNFRARED Update

I just sent my D800 590 converted camera back to Lifepixel.com for a permanent 720nm reconversion.
Why?
1. I like the look of 720nm a lot, and
2. The color conversion, to me, is easier and the color is more to my liking on my currently owned D300.......so,

...my new infrared setup will be the following:

D300 590nm for color infrared, which I've had for a while.
D800 720nm for standard B&W infrared
Life pixel 830 filter to be used on the lens when using the 720 and 590 for a deep black / glowing highlight look.

And the Singh Ray 690nm infrared screw on filter.
Why?
1. When I can only bring a color camera (D810), I can shoot infrared with the SR 690, although the exposures are a little longer, and...
2. I can produce a color and infrared version of the same scene, in exact registration. After which I have the ability to blend the two files, and adjust the opacity to create a hand coloring look, for example.

BACK UP YOUR DEVICES:

Beware or Ransomeware. No joke. For those who don't know or have experienced this $$$ scam:  We were driving across the country, my iphone email went to a white screen and stopped working....except for an email with a phone number to the only company on the planet that could fix this problem. For only $34.95 these scammers could fix my email by installing "special" software on the iphone. Right. I can only imagine how much spyware they would sneak in there.

It took an hour to fix.

1. backed up the iphone to iCloud

2. erased all content and settings to factory defaults

3. reinstalled from back up, and had to reconfigure email accounts.

It's a pain, but unfortunately an issue that has affected or will affect us all.

Moral: Back up all of your devices.
