LATEST NEWS How cancer cells develop resistance to treatment A team led by Prof David Thomas at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research has shown how a broad range of cancers, including melanoma, pancreatic cancer, sarcomas and breast cancer, generate a high number of errors when they copy their DNA when exposed to cancer treatments, leading to drug resistance. MRFF: Childhood brain cancer clinical trial LOGGIC: A phase III, randomised international multi-centre trial for Low Grade Glioma In Children and adolescents, led by A/Prof David Ziegler (CCIA/SCHN/UNSW), is one of four childhood brain cancer clinical trials recently awarded a share of $3M MRFF funding. Better diagnosis of ovarian cancer A new tool will help researchers and clinicians to classify ovarian cancer patients’ tumours into subtypes, paving the way the way for more targeted treatment of the deadly disease. GRANTSCOVID-19 + BEYOND: 2020 Rapid Response Scheme The 2020 Rapid Response Scheme of COVID-19 + BEYOND aims to fund projects that address unmet clinical needs that have been identified by SPHERE’s frontline health service workforce in response to COVID-19 and the resulting changes to the healthcare environment. Deadline: 30 June 2020 US Department Of Defense Kidney Cancer Research Program – Concept Award The Concept Award supports highly innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking novel concepts in kidney cancer, with funding of up to US$100,000 available for up to 1 year. Deadline (pre-application): 15 July 2020 Australian Research Data Commons Grant Opportunities The ARDC has put out a call for EOIs on a number of data project grants. The selection criteria in all schemes will assess the level of local institution co-investment. UNSW applicants can contact Research Technology Services to discuss this before or with internal EOI submissions.
US Department Of Defense Lung Cancer Research Program The LCRP has a Career Development Award and the Clinical Translational Research Partnership Award available. Applications must address at least one of the program’s nine Areas of Emphasis to be considered for funding. The RSO can provide you with advice regarding major grant schemes, including NHMRC, ARC and CRC-P. The team can meet with you one-on-one to help you decide which scheme is the best fit for your project, and how to navigate the ARC medical policy. Are you interested in learning more about development, clinical validation and funding models to bring your technology into the clinic? Or are you currently developing or testing novel medical technologies? If you answered yes to any one of these questions, this workshop is for you. The aim of this workshop is to give those working in the MedTech space information and advice to bring your ideas to commercial and clinical fruition, through talks, case studies and panel discussion. This follows a successful workshop focused on therapeutic development held in late 2019. It forms part of a developing framework to mobilise expertise and facilitate the cross-disciplinary collaborations required for successful therapeutic and technology development across our Sydney-based network. It was formed to create an innovative and supportive environment for the translation of cancer research into improvements in patient care. CONCERT The Centre for Oncology Education, Research and Training (CONCERT) is a translational research centre program funded by the Cancer Insitute NSW. CONCERT exists to bring together the knowledge and expertise of cancer health professionals and researchers to facilitate translation of research generated evidence into practice to achieve better outcomes for those affected by cancer. Cancer CAG The Cancer Clinical Academic Group (Cancer CAG) brings together clinicians and researchers from three universities, four cancer services (with six major treatment facilities) and three Medical Research Institutes. Our combined research strength spans the translational medicine spectrum of bench to bedside and health service delivery.
