1. Salmonella outbreak across 9 countries linked to raw, frozen poultry products

A Salmonella outbreak have been linked to frozen breaded chicken products; affecting eight European countries and the UK in the ongoing outbreak since May 2018. The most recent illnesses being reported in December 2020.

2. Bird flu causes egg shortage in South Korea

The culling of 26 million birds in South Korea since October has lead to serious egg shortage.

3. Russia reports first incidence of H5N8 in humans

Russian officials say they have confirmed what they describe as the first cases of highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza in humans, contracted from infected birds. The WHO still judge the overall risk from the virus to be low.

8. Source of E. coli outbreak in Austria continue to be investigated

An outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) infections in under investigation by Austrian authorities. Six people have been affected between September and December 2020.

10. Outbreaks of foodborne Salmonella Enteritidis from 1990-2015 in the US reviewed in study

Researchers have published a 37-page report in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases; "Outbreaks of Foodborne Salmonella Enteritidis in The United States 1990-2015: Epidemiologic and Spatial-temporal Trends Analyses”.
