The Quarterly Word

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Listen4Good (L4G)  newsletter, The Quarterly Word. We are so pleased to share with you the latest updates on our work bringing high-quality feedback systems to nonprofits around the country. Read on!

Approaching Equity, Diversity & Inclusion with Honesty

2020 was a challenging year on many fronts. But one of the bright spots, while difficult, was the opening up of discourse within the social sector about equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)—particularly racial equity and the long-term effects of white supremacy culture on how we do our work.

Honest self-examination with an equity frame is humbling work, to be sure. Going out of your way to challenge the assumptions that underpin current practice always is. We’re inspired by organizations that are authentically pursuing the uncomfortable work of exploring what, how and why they need to change, and we’ve been holding a mirror to ourselves as well.

For example, we’ve been looking at our tools and resources, such as the demographic questions in our core survey, our coaching protocols, and more. While we’ve already made changes based on what we’ve learned, we’re also mindful that working on EDI is as much a process as an endpoint—kind of like feedback loops themselves.

We believe strongly that feedback, when implemented well, can promote more equitable outcomes. But, we also understand that even broad, representative feedback is just one building block for deeper client/nonprofit engagement and authentic partnership.

Recently, the L4G  team developed a ‘client engagement pyramid’—of which feedback is a key part—that highlights how organizations can progressively bring clients further into organizational decision-making.

As we look ahead in 2021, we’re planning to build out additional resources and content for organizations exploring the relationship between feedback and EDI. Stay tuned for more!

Meet Our New Program Director

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the L4G team: Program Director Rebecca Koladycz. Rebecca arrived in January, having most recently worked with International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), where she led evidence and learning capacity-building efforts across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. She has over 20 years of experience helping mission-driven organizations take their programs and services to the next level. As we look to bring L4G to an even wider group of direct service organizations, we’re excited to have her on the team!

Where Listen4Good is Heading in 2021

As you’ll recall, we’ve launched two new ways for organizations to participate in Listen4Good in 2021:

Listen4Good Online+ offers full access to LIsten4Good's self-guided interactive online tools, which have been used by more than 250 organizations since 2018, at a fee of just $1,000. Online+ also provides group learning opportunities and virtual coaching services targeted to the exact moments when an organization may need it most, especially up front when they’re just getting started. All organizations will also receive a free SurveyMonkey Premier account as part of their participation fee.

Listen4Good Premium is the next-generation of Listen4Good's core program that we’ve been operating for 5 years with more than 320 organizations and is being made available for $6,000. L4G Premium matches a nonprofit with a single dedicated coach for 18 months, with the coach serving as an ongoing guide throughout the process. Participating organizations also enjoy full access to all of the self-directed tools and support, including a free SurveyMonkey Premier account.

Our winter rounds for Online+ and Premium are closing on Feb 24 and March 3 respectively, but stay tuned: we’ll be launching additional rounds in late summer/early fall. Please send any referrals our way using this form and join us at upcoming webinars about ways to participate in Listen4Good.

Join Listen4Good on Social Media

We’ve decided to finally jump in and join the rest of the world on social media! We’re starting out with a page on Facebook, since so many of you are there already. As we build our presence, we will feature nonprofits in our network along with feedback stories that illustrate the impacts of our tools and resources.

If you’d like us to help you spread the word of an initiative at your organization, please message us through Facebook, and we’ll happily share it.

In the meantime, please take a moment and give us a “like” and a “follow.”

In closing, thank you for your ongoing partnership with us. Please let us know what you thought of our first newsletter - you are welcome to contact us at hello@listen4good.org.

We look forward to an exciting 2021 as we introduce direct client feedback to more organizations, enabling them to build better survey systems, more responsive programming, and deeper relationships with their clients. See you soon!
