As of December 7, Yosemite is open from 8 am to 5 pm for day-use activities only, in support of California’s regional stay home order. The park will close to all visitors at 5 pm each day; lodging and campgrounds are temporarily closed. Please visit the Yosemite National Park website (nps.gov/yose) for more information, and see yosemite.org/covid for updates on Conservancy programs and services.

Video: A Glimpse Into Yosemite’s Chinese History
|
Chinese immigrants played a significant role in building roads in Yosemite, including the Wawona Road, today’s Tioga Road and the old Washburn Road. (Washburn Road is long gone, but you can follow part of the original route on the Washburn Trail to Mariposa Grove). If you enjoyed our recent story about sharing Yosemite’s Chinese history, watch this video that dives deeper into the role Chinese immigrants played in the early years of Yosemite National Park — and the curiosity that led ranger Yenyen Chan to uncover and honor their stories.

Q&A with Author Carmen Bogan
|
In 2017, Yosemite Conservancy published the children’s book Where’s Rodney?, about a young Black child who visits a big park, written by Carmen Bogan and illustrated by Floyd Cooper. Since then, the critically acclaimed book has continued to fly off our shelves, inspiring countless children and adults. We checked in with author Carmen Bogan about Where’s Rodney? and what’s next for her writing. A shorter version of this Q&A appears in our 2020 Autumn/Winter magazine.
