1. Update: Cyclospora Outbreaks “over” after 761 Sick

CDC was notified of 511 laboratory-confirmed cases of Cyclospora infections in people from 15 states and New York City who reported consuming salads in the Midwest.

2. African Swine Fever discovered in wild boar in Belgium

African Swine Fever (ASF) has been confirmed in two wild boars in Belgium according to the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) at the University of Minnesota.

3. Norway investigates Salmonella outbreak; source unknown

Thirteen people have been infected with Salmonella across Norway but the source has not yet been identified.

4. Commission to consider tougher rules on dual quality after landslide EU vote

In a plenary session today, 464 politicians voted in favour of the recommendations in the non-legislative resolution, with 69 votes against and 17 abstentions. The report will now go to the European Commission for consideration.

5. US egg recall following Salmonella outbreak; as Salmonella outbreak in Sydney linked to shell eggs

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said Gravel Ridge Farms was recalling the eggs because it is understand that 14 people have been affected with 2 needing hospital treatment. In addition, at least 23 people have been infected with Salmonella in an Australian state from an outbreak linked to eggs.

6. New research reveals challenges facing young people with food allergies and intolerances

7. Campylobacter levels hold steady

The top nine retailers across the UK have today published their latest testing results on campylobacter contamination in UK-produced fresh whole chickens (covering samples tested from April to June 2018).

8. Japan reports case of classical swine fever

Officials in Japan said Sunday that pigs on a farm in Gifu Prefecture have tested positive for Classical Swine Fever (CSF), the first case to be discovered in that country in 26 years, according to a report by the Swine Health Information Center.

9. Listeria researchers find a chink in the antibiotic-resistant bacteria’s armour

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh have shown that Listeria responds to an antibiotic, despite the pathogen carrying genes that should make it highly resistant.
