No Images? Click here The Athletics Carnival was held on Thursday and it was a fantastic day. It was a very well organised day, with serious competition as well as fun events being held. Student participation in all events was a highlight of the day. The cooperation and collegiality between staff and students was very evident and congratulations to Ms Seymour and the PDHPE Faculty for their organisation of the day and all the staff and students for their participation and support. The All Stars Girls and Boys, best of the best, race was an exciting end to the program. Congratulations and well done to Daniel Adelt (Year 12) and Mia Bales (Year 9), who won this year's event. That is two victories for Mia, well done! Camden House won the point score competition, so well done to all those students whose participation and commitment was rewarded with victory. The NAPLAN tests were completed by students in Years 7 and 9 last week. Students are to be commended on the manner in which they completed these, with staff making positive comments about the mature attitude and cooperation of all involved. Many thanks goes to Mrs Rudder, Mr McVicar and the team of dedicated staff who assisted with the supervision of these external tests. Ms Chapman and a team of eight students travelled to Armidale to compete in the mathematics competition run by the University of New England. These gifted students enjoyed some fierce competition and were very fine ambassadors for our school, well done. Our Show Team travelled to Wingham Beef Week to parade and show our cattle as well as demonstrate their skills in judging cattle. There were a lot of colourful sashes on display at assembly this week and congratulations to Lily Williams for her acknowledgment of the efforts of all the team members and the staff; Mrs Hicks, Mr Shilling, Mr Martin. The school acknowledged National Sorry Day last week with an assembly with special guests Aunty Rhonda and Uncle Clarrie in attendance. Mr Vonbun gave an insightful address to the school on the significance of the day and its importance to all Australians, but in particular to our indigenous Australians. This provided a great opportunity to reveal our new house flags with native elementals and traditional language. A big thank you to Mr Baker, Mr Wilkinson and Ms Woodhouse for all the planning and work leading up to this and the great video which showcased our local area which was made by students and edited by Ms Aldous. Well done to all involved. The assembly concluded with the whole school spelling out WE CARE on the oval to show our support of National Sorry Day, our anti-bullying day last term and the genuine support and concern that we have for the wellbeing of all our students and staff. This was showcased on Prime News and also on Star FM by our school leaders and Head Teacher Welfare, Mr Schouten. I have been concerned with the attendance of some of students which is falling below the 85% level which is required by the Department of Education (DoE). This is of particular concern with Years 9 and 10 especially during sport on Wednesday afternoon. Sport is compulsory and mandated by the DoE and lack of participation could result in students not receiving a ROSA at the end of Year 10. I ask parents to emphasise the importance of attending and participating actively in all school and curriculum requirements. Mid-course examinations begin for Years 7 to 10 next week. Students have been issued with a timetable and should there be any issues, students in Years 7 and 8 should see Ms Clough and Years 9 and 10 should see Mr Vonbun. All students in Years 7-9 are being gifted a jacket from the school. While we were waiting for the jackets to arrive, we permitted students to wear out of uniform to keep warm. After students have received their jacket, there will be no tolerance for students out of uniform. We will continue our Recess Redress in order to speak to students out of uniform. Last year students tried on jackets under staff supervision to select their size. We still have some hoodies available at the uniform shop for a discounted price of $40. Students in Years 10-12 that do not have a senior jacket or hoodie can also purchase the new jacket from the uniform shop for $60. See our full calendar here. 28 May • National Reconciliation Week Assembly Camden Haven High School House ElementalsTogether with local Indigenous Elders, we have created new House Elementals to make our school Houses inclusive and representative of the original custodians of the land.
