Physics & Astronomy Associate Professor Randy McEntaffer, along with a team of graduate and undergraduate students, are preparing rockets for launch to search for the unseen universe.

History Professor H. Glenn Penny has received the 2015 Distinguished Achievement in Arts and Humanities Research Award from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development.

History Professor Colin Gordon has received the 2015 Distinguished Achievement in Publicly Engaged Research Award from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development.

Arts News

Essayist Elena Passarello, a 2008 alumna of the Department of English’s Nonfiction Writing Program, is a winner of the 2015 Whiting Writers’ Award.

Theatre Arts announced its 2015-16 MainStage lineup, kicking off with American Idiot.

School of Music faculty and alumni presented work and won multiple awards at the annual conference of the Society for American Music.

CLAS faculty Joni Kinsey, Karen Mason, Barbara Mooney, and Marian Wilson Kimber will speak at the Iowa Humanities Festival, April 10-11, in Des Moines.

CLAS students and soccer sophomores Amanda Lulek and Corey Burns spent a week of winter break in Nicaragua serving as camp counselors with Soccer Without Borders.

Graduate students from the Print Area of the School of Art & Art History will travel with the UI Mobile Museum teaching Iowans about printmaking and its history.

Marilynne Robinson's Lila won the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Steve Duck, Rhetoric department chair and professor and Communication Studies researcher, was selected for inclusion in the Central States Communication Association’s Hall of Fame.

Eight CLAS staff members received Mary Louise Kelly Staff Excellence Awards for exceptional service to their department or to the College.

Political Science alumni Andrea N.J. Woodard and Brianne Sanchez both received Central Iowa Young Professional of the Year awards in Des Moines.

Rhetoric Lecturer Tom Keegan received the Honors Award for Campus Support.
