TERM 2 WEEK 2 - 6 MAY 2020 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEDear Parents, This morning in a first for Our Lady of Grace School, we gathered together ‘virtually’ to celebrate our Term 2 Mass online. It was delightful and uplifting to know that our children learning from home joined with the children learning at school to pray. Thank you to Father and Deacon Paul and all the parents at home for being a part of this event. Father spoke today about how Christ is present to us in this time of turmoil and in the presence of our parents, families and people who help us. The Sisters of The Holy Family of Nazareth story reminds us to find God in the everyday. These are two ways we can calm any fears or anxieties we may have about the world at moment. Father Hyginus celebrates Mass online every Sunday at 9.30am. Please join him and all the Parishioners in praying Mass together - the link to Mass online can be found on the Parish website. When I was growing up my family used to hold hands at the dinner table and each person would say one thing we were grateful for before saying Grace Before Meals. I learnt to be quick in thinking of something to be grateful for as there were 6 children, 2 parents and inevitably several visitors and I was always hungry! My mother was the mainstay and guide for our family’s faith and she continues now to centre her world around her faith. Mum is 90 in June and lives an active faith filled life, she prays daily for the families of Our Lady of Grace School and all its staff. I hope this Sunday all Mothers feel the love of their family and the respect of teachers and staff of our school. We know the impact Mothers have on their children in helping them be resilient, kind and loving children. There are lots of changes to how we would express our love of Mothers (gifts, flowers, etc) perhaps this time we can genuinely tell our Mothers just what they mean to us and the importance of them in our lives. Our survey conducted this week with parents from Kindy – Year 3 and Year 4 - 6 provided overwhelming support for the remote learning model we are currently using. The feedback of where things didn’t work has been really helpful and we are adapting all the time. This week we will survey students from Year 4 - 6 to hear the important voice of the child. If you are in Kindy - Year 3 your daily message and feedback tool is through Seesaw and your activity grids are available on the school Home Learning page on the school website. If you are learning in Years 4 – 6 you have twice daily whole group check in’s & frequent small group instruction. The grids are available on the home learning page and Onenote, you will find the detailed instructions in the Content Library and then proceed to the activity in Onenote. I thank all those parents who have followed the new process for Kiss and Ride. All staff have gone above and beyond to support students as they arrive and leave school. The safety of our students is paramount and I am grateful for parents who are patient with waiting for staff to bring your child to the car, particularly when the weather is rough. Parents who are picking children up under the fig tree you
can assist in reducing blocked traffic by entering Wilberforce Street off West Coast Highway, making your way past the Bowling Club around the back of the school. Parents of children in Kindy to Year 2 you should be very proud of the resilient and independent young people who emerge from your cars. They are awesome and it is a joy to greet them in the morning. If you could please remember to turn left when leaving Kiss and Ride it would be appreciated. Happy Mothers Day to all our Mums – we are truly grateful. For any queries, please contact Tracey Retamal - traceyretamal@gmail.com The WA Flute Competition is an annual competition adjudicated by some of Perth's top professional flautists. This year, the competition adapted to the global pandemic and moved into an online environment. Each participant was required to video themselves playing two AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) pieces and send it to the competition. Participants also were required to adapt by practising one of their pieces with a piano recording as opposed to a live accompanist. This Sunday, the winners of each age category will be announced. This year, two of our Year 6 students, Savannah Lauri and Katherine Banwell, are competing for the first time in the under 11's age category. Savannah and Katherine have worked hard despite the challenging circumstances, demonstrating resilience, perseverance, and determination. Well done to Savannah and Katherine, and good luck! ~ Miss Marchesani Welcome back and we hope everyone is well and keeping safe in Term 2 – whether at home or at school.
