Click here TERM 3 WEEK 7 AUGUST 29, 2018 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEGrandparents Day It also provides the opportunity/excuse for our students’ grandparents to come into the school and experience, in some small way, where and how their grandchildren spend a significant portion of their waking hours. The children’s guests will also have the chance to visit the new facilities and technology that is part of education today. The Program: 8.50am Grandparents congregate in the church in readiness for mass at 9.00am. The mass will feature a number of students doing the Readings etc as well as the school choir. 10.00am Grandparents move from the church to the school hall for morning tea, provided by the P&F. In the hall will be an exhibition of student art works but you might like to wait until the grandchildren arrive before spending time on this. Simply enjoy the morning tea and the company of fellow grandparents. 10.30am By this time we hope you are replete. The eldest of your grandchildren will come to collect you. (If your oldest grandchild is in Pre Primary or Kindergarten, you will need to go to their classroom rather than them coming to you.) They will take you to their classroom, show you their work, perhaps introduce their teacher, take you to places where they are involved in clubs or other programs and then on to pick up the next oldest grandie. And so the process continues. Once your flock is gathered and you have spent an appropriate amount of time admiring the work of each of them, you might take guide your group back to the hall to view their art works. Once this is done you are encouraged to let them take you, or you take them on a tour of the new buildings, upstairs above the canteen, the library, the nature playground and anywhere else of interest. Once finished, please send the older children back to their classrooms but physically take any in Year 3 or below back to theirs. 11.15am At about this time we would expect that most children will have completed showing their grandparents around and you will be able to leave the school, knowing you have made their day by showing your interest. Tournament of Minds - It’s the Journey that Matters Our four teams performed their responses to this year’s challenges to audiences and judges. Participation in TOM is a true learning experience. Children learn the value of time management, team work, resilience, problem solving, outward display of confidence, persistence in the face of difficulty and doing your best. Many schools in WA are involved in TOM and so to progress from District Finals to State Finals is no mean feat. To get to the International Final is a considerable achievement – to win at that level is rare. All four of our teams were a credit to OLG in the way they behaved, performed, and bounced back where necessary, on the day. I congratulate each child who was involved for how well they displayed the above attributes. To the facilitators, Miss Mulcahy, Mrs Meyers and Mrs Elliott, I thank you on behalf of your team members and their families for the time and effort you invested in your respective teams. To Mrs Meyers’ Social science team and Mrs Elliott’s Arts team, congratulations on making it through to the State Finals. We wish you well and an enjoyable journey. Building Works · The move of the contents of the teaching resources room (off the north side of the library) to the current staff room, is underway and will be completed next week. · Work will then commence on converting the current teacher resources room into a Year 3 classroom. · Over the next two weeks it is expected that o roofing will be installed over the east end of the hall o the admin building will get a roof, plastered walls, etc · The ‘Office’ should move into the renovated building in late September or early October. · Demolition of the range of rooms currently housing the PE store, Site Office and Admin will be done on was early as the October holidays. · The hall will be complete by 7 December. NAPLAN 2018 NAPLAN individual student reports will be delivered to schools from 10 September 2018 and will be sent home once we have them. Did you know? That thoughtful integration of IT into the teaching/learning environment not only provides the opportunity for ‘deeper’ learning but prepare our students for life (not to mention high school) where technology is omnipresent. How much of you work today involved the use of a device? Tournament of Minds Congratulations on an outstanding performance by all of our teams that competed at ECU on Saturday. Our Arts team, facilitated by Briony Elliott and the Social Science team facilitated by Lisa Meyers. Both teams have progressed through to the WA final on September 9th. God bless This weeks assembly is presented by students in 3G. Parents of 3G children are invited to the staff room after assembly for a cuppa with Mrs Sarah Tangifua and Mrs Anne Burke. Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at last week's assembly.
