First general body meeting summary

Icebreaker!

Our first general body meeting of the year was held this past Tuesday in Mattin Center 160 from 6 until about 7 pm.  HOMES President Stephanie Valarezo (BME '13) gave an introduction of the group's mission, why it's important, and how it fits under a national organization.  Teno Boone (ChemBE '13), the Programs Chair, gave a photographic presentation to introduce the executive board and the kinds of events members participate in throughout the year.  Stephanie reviewed what our executive board expects of its members and led a brainstorm of what members are looking for from HOMES.  Since there are no dues but many benefits to becoming a member of HOMES, our executive board expects members to attend as many meetings as possible.  Members expect:

  • networking and connections
  • study tips
  • help to get internships, scholarships, and study abroad opportunities
  • family atmosphere

This year is going to be one of our best yet and we are excited to work with our new group of members!  To close out our meeting we did a few icebreakers led by Vice-President Michael Lampart (ECE '13), Finance Chair Makesi Paul (CivE '14), and E-Board Member-at-Large Austin Young (Materials Science '13).

Professional development meeting tomorrow!
