A book I've been enjoying...
I've just finished reading Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence by Dr. Anna Lembke. It's brilliant! I love the honesty and practical application. Here are a few outtakes which I hope you'll find useful:
- Life is about pleasure and pain, and finding balance is essential
- We all need to find contentment and connectedness
- "We've all become vulnerable to compulsive overconsumption" and this book really helps understand why.
An article I've just written...
I've been very fortunate to write an article for FE News about How to tackle and reduce drop-out rates in FE...and life. It's been a great opportunity and I'm very grateful. At Meee we've been working with a number of Further Education colleges with some amazing results. We sent out a press release and FE News asked if I would like to write a monthly article. This was the first one and the responses have been great. I always think that when you say 'yes' to opportunities like
this you never know where they might lead.
What camping has recently taught me...
I recently spent 5 wonderful days camping with Freddie and Beatrice in Cilan, Abersoch, North Wales. It was our first camping trip together and although the weather was challenging, it taught me loads about appreciating every single moment regardless of the situation. Our tent was next to Mel, Rich and their two fab children and we helped each other out with cooking, childcare, entertaining and overcoming whatever came our way. It was that feeling of 'connectedness' with Freddie and Beatrice, with nature and with others that I'll take away from our trip. And yes, we're going back next year :)
We have a new member joining our team at Meee...
Meee has now been going for 6 years and we've grown, worked really hard and evolved so much in the last year. So much so that I have the pleasure and appreciation of welcoming Paula Harding to Meee. Paula starts today and we're all really looking forward to working together. It reminds me that nothing good comes without hard work, and to achieve anything you've just got to keep trying and believing in what you do.
A quote I think of a lot...
A quote that's really resonated with me lately is from the amazing Maya Angelou. I've nearly finished her brilliant book 'I know why the caged bird sings' and there are so many great quotes but this one is a great reminder of doing everything with a kind heart. "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
