Musiques sublimées is a minimalist performance that explores a world of small gestures, both absurd and simple, through music and theatre. Kagel's first two quartets - key works of the 1960s that are rarely heard in concert - are juxtaposed against other works for strings that mix artistic mediums, taking the genre to its limits. Also on the programme: Nicole Lizée's Hitchock Études for string quartet and video projection, Michael Oesterle's Kangaroo with choreography by Danse K par K, and Anthony Tan's new work Ways of Returning: for string quartet and live projections by Louis-Robert Boucharda. This programme forges links between new and old, breaking all conventions of the string quartet concert, through contrast and collaboration. Under the direction of the quartet and composer Philippe Leroux, young composers develop sketches and new sound-worlds during five intensive days of creative experimentation. Come hear the new works created by the participants at the closing concert on May 11 at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal! Invited guests Ensemble Dedalus (France) and singer Andrea Young (Canada) will join Quatuor Bozzini for two concerts as part of Suoni per il Popolo 2019. During these two evenings, immersive drone music will rub shoulders with architectural spaces and refined works that defy our concept of time: a North-American Éliane Radigue premiere by the Dedalus ensemble, works by Tom Johnson, the world premiere of André Cormier's new quartet, as well as a recent work by Andrea Young for voice and string quartet. QB is happy to return to TIME:SPANS festival in the Big Apple for the third consecutive year, and is proud to present Canadian/Quebec works by Michael Oesterle and Ana Sokolović. The concert will take place on August 19, 2019 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in Manhattan. In August, the quartet will teach at the Banff Arts Centre's program EQ: Evolution of the String Quartet. They will then offer a BozzLab week-long workshop in Vancouver before flying to Grand-Barachois, N.B., where they will premiere a new work by André Cormier with singers Juliet Fraser (UK) and Andrea Young. The summer festival season will conclude at the end of August at the Ostrava Days Festival where the quartet will premiere a new work by American composer Christian Wolff.
