Message from the ISSM President, Annamaria Giraldi – WMSM Will Be Virtual

The ISSM is looking forward to the 22nd World Meeting on Sexual Medicine this November. However, the meeting will be held virtually, not in person.

Because the COVID-19 pandemic, the ISSM Directors have decided to hold the meeting online.

"We really had hoped that it would have been possible to meet in person – and I personally had looked forward to meeting all you good colleagues in Japan," wrote ISSM President Annamaria Giraldi in a letter to ISSM members.

"I know that the APSSM (Asia Pacific Society for Sexual Medicine) and the JSSM (Japanese Society for Sexual Medicine) also had looked forward to welcome you all in Japan," Dr. Giraldi added.

More details about the virtual meeting and registration information will be emailed to members next week. The meeting will be held November 19-21, 2021.

Please stay safe. We hope that we will all be together again very soon.

Psychosocial Factors Linked to Sexual Pain in College-Age Women

About 19% of sexually active college-age women in the United States have "frequent" sexual pain, a new Journal of Sexual Medicine study reports.

Psychosocial factors could contribute to genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder (GPPPD) in this population, the researchers said.

They examined survey data from 593 heterosexual women in an introductory psychology course at a U.S. university. The participants' average age was 18.96 years.

Expectations about sex and sex guilt were two factors influencing the women's experiences.
