Welcome . . .

Welcome to the May edition of the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Newsletter. Phew, what a busy few weeks we have had promoting green days out across the county with Northern Rail and Alba Travel, looking after our visiting locos and hosting a rather fantastic Family Fun Weekend. There's no rest for the wicked though, we have a busy summer season planned ... read on for further details ...

We are Family

What a busy May Day Bank Holiday Weekend we had! Our Family Fun Weekend was a fantastic success and everyone seemed in such high spirits; we can't wait for next year!

Here's a snap of La'al Ratty enjoying the sunshire with his cousin 'Sammy Squirrel' from Ullswater 'Steamers'. Visit our 'Gallery' for more images.

A Sneak Peak at Whit Week!

Whit Week will soon be with us and the weather forecast is looking great! So why not get out and about around the Western Lakes?

From Saturday 25th - Wednesday 29th May 2013 Muncaster Castle will be holding their annual 'Muncaster Festival' which is full of exciting entertainment for all the family with daily shows, husky sled rides, outdoor games, storytelling, face painting and much, much more.

The Railway will also be exhibiting at the Festival with our mascot, La'al Ratty, in tow. We will be giving away 'Kids Go Free' vouchers so it is well worth saying hello!

At the Railway we are delighted to announce that we have a visiting loco from the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway who will be joining us for Whitsun. 'Samson' is a 'mountain' class locomotive - perfect for the hills of Lakeland! She is painted in the dark blue of the former Great Eastern Railway and is so long that her tender will have to be split from the engine and turned separately at each end of our line.

'Samson' will be hauling trains along with 'Wroxham Broad' from the Bure Valley Railway, and our own Northern Rock and diesel loco Perkins.

Let's Get Ready to Ramble . . .

Up in the Western Lakes on the 1st June? Then why not tag along on our 'Steam & Ramble' event with the Cumbria Wildlife Trust? Join us for a 3 mile guided walk from Irton Road to Dalegarth Station. Return train travel from Ravenglass is also included.

Choose to celebrate your walking accomplishment with an indulgent homemade cream tea at either our Turntable or Fellbites Café for just a little extra.

Tickets:

  • Adult = £10.00
  • Adult with Cream Tea = £14.00
  • Child = £5.00
  • Child with Cream Tea = £7.00

A Different Kind of Railway 'Sleeper' . . .

Any guesses?

Well, it must be our Pullman Camping Coaches, now used as holiday accommodation at Ravenglass Station.

If you are thinking of visiting us soon why not make your break just that little bit more special with a stay in one of our two orignal Pullman Coaches.

These former Ambulance Cars are almost exactly as they would have been nearly a century ago with beautiful wood clad interiors; although we have welcomed a few modern gadgets!

Prices start from £330.00 a week and travel on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway is free for the person booking and discounted for other members of the holiday party.

Visit our 'Accommodation' page for more information.
