Spotlight on ASUM Education!

Emeritus Professor David Prideaux

As part of ASUM’s commitment to the membership to deliver best practise medical education, the ASUM Council have commissioned Emeritus Professor David Prideaux to review the Diploma Diagnostic Ultrasound(DDU) and Clinician Performed Ultrasound(CCPU) programs. This work builds on the previous assessment review completed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) in 2019 and will ensure that ASUM remains at the forefront for formal education delivery in ultrasound.

Phase 1 December 2019 – February 2020 will consist of a comprehensive review of the ASUM documentation, investigating “constructive alignment” of the current syllabus and assessment tools and areas for programmatic assessment identified by the ACER report.

Phase 2 – February – April 2020 will involve discussions with key personnel from the membership who are involved with development and delivery of the DDU and CCPU. Current candidates will also have the opportunity to be involved.

Further updates will be communicated as the review progresses.

Logging your CPD activities

Where to find your CPD activity records

If you log your CPD activity records using the myASUM CPD Program, you may be wondering where to find your CPD activities that are dated older than July 2017. They are located under the Legacy CPD tab. You can still view and update these records, and when you download your CPD report all records will be displayed regardless of the year.

CPD Events Update

CPD Events - What you may have missed...

What you may have missed....

Last weekend Dr Jones and Partners, Kurralta Park (Adelaide)  hosted ASUM's Lower Limb MSK Event, where registrants got to hear from Clinical Educator Bridie Roche (nee Wylie), Rheumatologist Dr Anita Lee and Sports Physicians Dr Ramona Chryssidis and Dr Mark Ralfe.

It was an incredible day of learning and when we asked attendees what they liked most about the day, here's what they had to say:

"The ability to have some hands on teaching, going through all the basic anatomy and having alternative view points from the MSK and Sports GPs"

"Hands on scanning"

"The speakers. Very relatable. Really enjoyed learning from Dr Ralfe and Dr Chryssidis"

"Learning the ligaments in the midfoot and having scanning practice"

A big thank you to our excellent presenters for making this such a successful event and to Ben Gobbie for convening and helping organise this event.

Your efforts and contributions are all greatly appreciated!
