Legge: Business can't give moreIn the wake of proposed federal tax changes, Chamber President and CEO Adam Legge penned an op-ed for the Calgary Herald to every elected official from the entrepreneurs of Calgary: please stop going after business for money. It isn’t there. And every time an additional cost is added, someone loses a job. "Let’s create positive tax rules that foster investment and hiring, not curtail it" implores Legge. But it's also about more than that. We need to get back to being a society that values and supports businesses as key to enabling what we cherish. Defending your interests on the federal tax changesThe Government of Canada recently announced some of the most sweeping changes to the business tax laws in decades, and they may seriously harm your small business. Your Calgary Chamber has been actively fighting for your business: working to extend the consultation around these changes, making sure the government understands the negative impact they will have on many legitimate small businesses, and strongly encouraging them to rethink the taxes altogether. This has also included activities like roundtable meeting with Minister Kent Hehr and local business leaders to take this message back to the cabinet table.
