WE WILL BE AT THE LANDCARE CONFERENCE!

Look out for members of the Native Vegetation Council and staff from the Native Vegetation Management Unit of DEWNR at the 2015 State Community Landcare Conference.

The Conference topic "Landcare – connecting people and healthy landscapes" will give participants the opportunity to explore the 4 themes of the Conference: Biodiversity – Management and Conservation, Indigenous Land Management, People and Volunteers, and Sustainable Farming.

The Native Vegetation Council is sponsoring the Biodiversity theme at the conference. During the Biodiversity session on Day 2, the Native Vegetation Management Unit will be holding a special session on Native Vegetation Reforms, titled: “Challenging the status quo; Changing, reforming and innovating native vegetation management in SA.”

The conference will be held at Waikerie between 14 - 16 of September.  A program is still being finalised but you can register to attend and receive updates at www.landcaresa.asn.au

Early bird registrations are open till the end of July 2015. For enquiries, please contact Jacqui Wilson: jacqui.wilson@gwlap.org.au or call 0400 036843

WE WILL BE AT THE RESOURCE INDUSTRY CONFERENCE & TRADE EXPO!

Staff from the Native Vegetation Management Unit and Natural Resources, SA Arid Lands will be providing information during the trade expo on current natural resource program initiatives and the new Significant Environmental Benefit (SEB) Offset policy.

This new SEB policy will support the establishment of a 3rd party biodiversity credit market to support the requirements of offsetting through clearance activities.

WE WOULD LIKE TO TALK WITH YOU

If you are part of an organisation or a group that has an interest in native vegetation, we would like to talk with you.

There are many native vegetation reform projects occurring presently.  Progressive changes to regulation and policy are in motion over the next 6 months.  If you would like to hear more about what the Native Vegetation Management Unit are doing, please contact Dijana on 8303 9679 or dijana.jevremov@sa.gov.au to organise a time.

REMINDER

Thanks to everyone who has already responded to the brief survey on native vegetation management in South Australia. Your feedback is very valuable to the Native Vegetation Council (NVC) for developing policy direction, strategies and implementation.

If you have dealt with our processes or with the Native Vegetation Act 1991 but not completed the survey, we still hope to hear from you.

The 8 main questions in the survey will take less than 10 minutes to complete.  All participants who volunteer their phone number or email address will go into the draw to win one of four signed copies of Todd Berkinshaw’s splendid hardcover book Mangroves to Mallee – The Complete Guide to the Vegetation of Temperate South Australia.

Take this opportunity to have your say by completing the online form, at the ‘Have Your Say’ site of DEWNR.

Consultation closes: Monday 31 August 2015

CALLING ALL HERITAGE AGREEMENT LANDOWNERS

Heritage Agreement landowners can assist research into the benefits and limitations of current programs for conserving native wildlife on private land.

You are invited to contribute your first-hand knowledge to an Australia-wide study led by Julie Groce, PhD student, and Dr. Carly Cook at Monash University. They are interested in hearing about your experiences with your Heritage Agreement.

By responding to a short interview and/or survey, you can tell them what you think has worked well and what additional steps would help you reach your goals for your property.  All your responses will be kept anonymous and all perspectives are welcome.

This is a great opportunity for you to join with other landholders around Australia to express your candid views about conservation agreements and help improve the effectiveness of conservation programs.

If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please contact Julie at julie.groce@monash.edu or 0431882164, School of Biological Sciences, Monash University, Clayton, VIC 3800

HERITAGE AGREEMENT UPDATE

Our Heritage Agreement Officer, Alicia, is busy working through current applications for Heritage Agreements (HA). We are hoping this backlog can be cleared soon and our focus can start on what next for HA’s.

As HA’s represent a significant part of our conservation estate, especially in the agricultural districts in South Australia (see graphic), it is important that there is sufficient support to maintain the quality of HA’s. If you have any thoughts on the future direction for HA’s please use the opportunity through the ‘Have Your Say’ survey above.
