No Images? Click here APARTMENT DESIGN POLICY (APARTMENTSWA) Members are reminded the Apartment Design policy (ApartmentsWA) replaces Part 6 of the R-Codes from 24 May 2019. This follows from the DesignWA and the Apartment Design policy (ApartmentsWA) release by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti on 18 February 2019, with the aim to address community concerns about higher density developments and infill throughout Perth. Design WA’s major objectives for future developments include:
The Apartment Design policy addresses the design of apartments and includes design controls such as building heights, setbacks and plot ratio. It also covers issues such as solar access, ventilation, storage, noise, energy efficiency and water management. ApartmentsWA is a performance-based policy. Designs must demonstrate that the objectives of the policy are achieved. It is important to note addressing the acceptable outcomes provided can achieve the objectives but they are not considered a deemed-to-comply pathway and the objectives must always be met to achieve approval. The process for approval granting has also been modified, with a design review process being recommended. Feedback on the design concept would be provided by a panel established by the local government. For further information refer to the DPLH website.
