NOTE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Our calendar for 2019 is almost complete! We have opportunity for a few suggestions for lecture topics. If you have a topic of interest or you are interested in presenting a topic that is CME eligible, please contact us.
The MAG House of Delegates meeting is scheduled for October. While we have not been granted our delegate allotment for this year, if past years are any indication, we will need to fill approximately 35 delegate positions. This is our voice on the state level and we need representation. If you are interested in serving as a Delegate, please fill out the form enclosed or send an email to dwalton@medicalbureau.net.

OPIOID COMPLIANCE UPDATE
Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP)
As you may remember, the PDMP was activated last year in an effort to combat opioid abuse and addiction. Physicians with an active DEA number were required to register with the PDMP by January 1, 2018. The Georgia Composite Medical Board has begun issuing fines in excess of $3,000 to those physicians not yet registered with the program.
For a quick reference to the bill that outlines use of the PDMP visit:

Opioid Education
Also effective January 1, 2018 was a ruling by the Georgia Composite Medical Board requiring physicians to complete 3.0 AMA/AOA category 1 credit hours of continuing medical education targeting opioid abuse and addiction. Any controlled substances prescribing guidelines coursework taken within two years of your last renewal will count toward this requirement. These credit hours may count towards the overall credit hours required for license renewal.
The RCMS offers free online CME courses that qualify for these required hours. Visit our website at www.rcmsga.org and click the online CME tab.
In addition, the Georgia Chapter of the American College of Physicians is offering a free online course at www.gaacp.org.
If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please contact the society office at 706-733-1561.
