It's how we roll...

What a difference a week makes!  Auckland is in Alert Level 1, people can once more travel more freely and we are allowed to gather in larger groups - the world of recreation, entertainment and sport are open to audiences.

Lawn bowls is back in full swing.  So, what a terrific sight it was to see hundreds of enthusiastic bowlers outside, back on the green enjoying the sunshine.

Another sport was back on the sporting calendar. It's the one with the big-budget, it has boats flying over the water, has captured local and international interest.  We congratulate Emirates Team NZ for its great victory and for making America's Cup New Zealand's Cup again!

Definition of 'length'...

You might be short in height, short of money, short of breath, short of a gallop, short in pastry, far too short in your hemline, but if you haven't got length in bowls you are nowhere!

What's coming up...

Put aside some time this weekend and get out and support your 1-5 Year playing side as they brave unfamiliar greens and go head to head with players outside their usual scope.  The host clubs are Mt Eden, St Heliers, Blockhouse Bay and Pt Chevalier.  Headquarters for Sunday's post section is Pt Chevalier Bowls.

National 7s Interclub Finals Day...

Date Saturday 13 March

There were battles, there were sighs, there was laughter and there was a lot of teamwork. Many sides were diverse - the young and the more experienced, the fit and the less agile - all coming together and each contributing.

We were delighted with the success of the new two-division format and with a large number of teams entered. We look forward to having a bigger turnout next year.

Congratulations to all the winning teams. The Division 1 winners will represent Auckland at the National Interclub Finals, held in Christchurch on 15-18 April 2021.

I see green, I see green, I see green!

Date: 14 March 2021
Wear green, eat green, drink green and play on the green... everything was green at Glen Eden's St Patrick's Day tournament!

Coming from far and wide, including members from Oratia Bowling Club, New Lynn Bowls and Carlton Cornwall.  Players didn't just turn up to bowl, they were also there to soak up the atmosphere.

Hunter Bowls Shop Classic Tournament...

Date: 17 March 2021
Remuera Bowls recently held its Hunter Bowls Shop Classic Tournament. It was a true classic tournament where a team of four for part of the tournament play in two teams of pairs and for the other part of the tournament play in one team of four. While this format may give organisers a headache as they compile the draws, the bowlers really enjoy the challenge.

Left: Winners - N Fisher, B Chapman, G Cotton, L Brown
Right: Runners-up  - P Millar, D Ramsey, K Lister, T Lister
