Draft regs under the microscope
Draft National Co-operative Regulations in NSW have now been released for industry and public comment. Co-operatives are encouraged to offer their insights and provide comment on the proposed legislation on the NSW Fair Trading website.
Deadline for comments is 7 January 2013. |

What's happening here?
Borderlands Cooperative released a report on Tuesday on co-operative housing, investigating its economic, social and psychological benefits. The report was completed on behalf of the Victorian co-operative housing sector, with the purpose of advocating co-operative housing as the Victorian Government undertakes a review of social housing.

What's happening over there?
A consortium of co-operative housing associations has won the Buy Better Together Challenge with a collective purchasing scheme Smarterbuys, which uses group purchasing power and existing sources of affordable credit to bring down the cost of white goods.

The University of Western Australia and Co-operatives WA released its research into the Co-operative sector at the Co-operatives WA Conference November 8–9.
Co-operatives in the Fourth Sector: The role of Member-Owned Businesses in the Global Economy examines how the member-focused nature of co-operatives is a fundamental driver in their success.

Youth join UN online
Australian youth representatives were invited to contribute to a draft International Co-operative Youth Statement as part of the UN official closing event for the International Year of Co-operatives – NYC 19–21 Nov.
