Top UK nurse slams 'extremely worrying' state of diabetes nursing

A leading nurse consultant has called the state of diabetes nursing “extremely worrying” and says the country could face a “ticking time bomb of poor health” unless changes are made.

Debbie Hicks, who has been in diabetes nursing since 1990 and is the co-founder of the leading nursing organisation TREND-UK (Training, Research and Education for Nurses in Diabetes-UK), is calling for an urgent change within the sector before things get any worse. To read more, click here

Rowan Hillson award winner announced

The winner of the Rowan Hillson Insulin Safety Award 2018 has been announced this morning.

Dr Stuart Ritchie, Consultant Physician, of Western General Hospital, NHS Lothian, has been declared the winner from a competitive field for his entry ‘Development of an inpatient diabetes dashboard to drive quality improvement’. To read more, click here.

DPP-4 inhibitors ‘increase’ risk of IBS says study

Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4 inhibitors) have been linked to a 75 per cent increase in risk of inflammatory bowel disease compared to other type 2 diabetes drugs, according to a study published in the BMJ. To read more, click here

Finalists announced in Ascensia Diabetes Challenge

The six finalists in a global innovation competition seeking digital solutions to support type 2 diabetes management have been announced by organisers Ascensia Diabetes Care.
