Inside this edition you can also learn about Ash dieback and its impact on us at Tyddyn Isaf, as well as getting an insight into some of the awesome fungi that are growing in our woodland in our Feature of the Month. You can also meet Meirion, who has been part of the team at Tyddyn Isaf for ten years. Photo of the Month Congratulations to Lisa Nadin for her outstanding photo of the Month for March. Camping trips are about ALL the family joining in, and her photo of Ty captures how much he loves staying with us at Tyddyn Isaf. Lisa has been holidaying with us for over 30 years, and Ty is just about to join us for his 11th season. Are you a keen (amateur or professional) photographer who loves to capture moving scenes and magical memories that unravel before your eyes during your stay on the beautiful island of Anglesey? We would love you to share these moments with us and our readers by tagging us via Instagram or facebook. #tyddynisaf At the end of each month we will select our favourite photograph that we believe captures the best scene, and you too could have your image featured as our "Photo of the Month" Inside Tyddyn Isaf After pulling the park apart between October and January, February is the month that we work frantically to put it all back together again in preparation for the return of our customers from March 1st onwards. Find out how the good and the bad about how we got on, and what else we've been up to in this month’s edition of ‘Inside Tyddyn Isaf’. Anglesey's Beautiful Beaches Traeth Bychan (Small Beach) is a quiet beach, famous as the spot where the submarine HMS Thetis was beached after a tragic accident which occurred off the coast, when the vessel was carrying out trials in 1939. The Harbour at Traeth Bychan started life as a quarry and was later transformed into a dock, servicing the nearby quarry where it was used to load millstones. It seems that the quality of millstones here was unsurpassed and they were exported all over Britain including, in 1314, one purchased for the sizeable sum of 28/9d by the Royal Mill in Dublin. Doubtless many of the fifty windmills in Anglesey that helped contribute to it being called the "granary of Wales" had some stones that came from this quarry. For more information about the history of the harbour: http://www.traethbychanharbour.co.uk/harbour-history.html Click below for more information about the beach and its facilities. Feature of the Month Focus on Conservation - Ash dieback disease Ash dieback is a disease affecting Ash Trees across the UK, and has had a considerable impact on our management of Wendy Wood. Learn how we are dealing with this ecological conundrum, whilst at the same time, encouraging the proliferation of health habitats by clicking the link below. Meet the Team Welcome to Meirion Jones. On the 1st March Meirion will have been with us 10 years. As a long standing, valued member of staff Meirion has a very varied job role - from siting our new arrivals to mixing concrete and everything in between! Events Calendar What's happening on Anglesey... 1st March - St Davids day March kicks off in style with St David’s Day, when Welsh people across the world but mainly in Wales, naturally celebrate their fantastic heritage under the banner of their national saint. Saint David’s greatest miracle was creating a hill under his feet where he spoke about God, though otherwise, he was quite a humble man. |
