It is my privilege today to launch The Bright Christmas Appeal 2015, which will run from 25 November until 25 December 2015 and will support three causes:

Marino Community Garden

Residents in Marino and Kingston Park are working together to establish a community garden on Newland Avenue, Marino. The garden will be a place where local people can come together to grow fruit and vegetables and to meet one another. Funds raised will go towards getting this local initiative off the ground. If you're interested in being involved in the garden, you can contact Steve Barratt on: barro@live.com.au

Beach for All

Beach for All aims to make beaches accessible for wheelchairs and others who find navigating the sand difficult by fundraising to provide a beach access mat at Seacliff beach. I am coordinating this project in partnership with the Adelaide community, Surf Life Saving SA and Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club and, in the first instance, we hope that this mat can be rolled out during surf life saving patrols to direct people to the safest part of the beach. In the longer term, I'd love to see these access mats at every patrolled beach in Adelaide. Visit www.davidspeirs.com.au/beachforall to find out more.

SeeChange for Zimbabwe
In January of this year, I visited Zimbabwe and one of the most impacting challenges I came across was the fact that some children in rural communities needed to walk almost 15kms each day (approximately a 3-hour journey) just to get to secondary school. Moved by this, I have decided to use my privileged position to partner with World Vision in its plan to complete the Whikwi Secondary School by building classrooms, meaning that these children will no longer need to walk such a great distance to school. Funds from the Bright Christmas Appeal will kick-start fundraising for this project, with a community fundraising walk organised for 17 April 2016 – more details to come!

Please join me in supporting these worthy causes during our Christmas season this year.

Donations can be dropped off to my electorate office, 7 Sturt Road, Brighton, or mailed to PO Box 121, Brighton SA 5048. If you would like to donate via cheque, please make the cheque payable to the Bright SEC.

David.
