Kino Kabaret 32 Hour Filmmaking Marathon

Kino Kabaret Time

The team behind Jurassic Lounge and the Sydney Film Festival Hub – The Festivalists have put together another great year of filmmaking.  You may know their regular monthly screening nights – Kino Sydney, but do you know about Kino Kabaret, the annual filmmaking marathon weekend?

In just two days a short film will be written, shot, edited and then screened to a packed audience. With the support of Metro Screen, 90 filmmakers will pack in to the green screen studio and the media lab and generally take over the Metro Screen facilities for three weekends in a row: 17th – 18th and the 24th – 25th of November and finally 2nd – 3rd of December. There are a few spots left if you want to join in the production team. Beginners are welcome and no equipment is necessary.

If you’re not up for making a film, you can come along to watch them at the screening parties each Sunday at the Night Parrot. They kick off at 6.30pm with live entertainment followed by the films, (with pizza and drinks).

Big Changes in the Camera World

Sony has recently unveiled their new CineAlta 4K PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 high-end cameras which sit between the current models PMW-F3 available at Metro Screen, and the PMW-F65. It has sent waves of shock through the industry, so much so that the price of the RED battle-tested ONE camera body has been cut by half, now retailing at a $4,000. Independent filmmakers are chomping at the bit to get their hands on the BlackMagic Cinema Camera, which is on back-order while the manufacturers fix a fault with the sensors before ramping up production again. Metro Screen has an order in and we’re hoping to have it ready for you to hire early next year. We are also expecting to receive the Nikon D600 and D800 very soon for hire. These cameras are bound to rival the Canon DSLR. The new online quoting system is proving popular with production managers. Get an instant quote 24/7 for your next production including all of our cameras and lenses available for you to hire.
