This month, we surpass the half-year mark since Florida's first reported case of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our state. Through the hard work of our health care workers on the front line and your efforts to prevent the spread of illness by wearing masks and keeping distance from others, we are effectively reducing the spread of COVID. The positivity rate of new cases has remained below 10 percent for 41 straight days. With the lowest hospitalization rates since June and children fully enrolled in school, we will continue to power through this fall and find our stride among the rest of the nation and the world. At the direction of Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Secretary Halsey Beshears issued Emergency Order 2020-10, allowing breweries and bars to reopen at 50 percent capacity effective September 18. Last week, these small businesses reopened their doors after almost six months of ceased operation, committed to prioritizing the health and safety of patrons. There is no doubt of the hardship these businesses have endured during their shutdown. The balance between running a local, small business while prioritizing health and safety measures is no simple feat. But together, we have and we will continue to support our neighbors and help each other through this pandemic. I am tremendously thankful for the people of District 28, for their diligence in practicing health and safety measures to reduce the spread and their resilience to face the uncertain adversity of the pandemic, head-on with courage. Let us continue to fight the good fight and overcome COVID-19. Anyone with a computer and internet service can complete their census questionnaire at my2020census.gov. Data from the U.S. Census will help guide over $675 billion in federal funding to communities for schools, roads, hospitals and more.
