This is a time for all to consolidate their efforts of the past two years in preparation for the HSC early next term. Visits to our local primary schools continue, with our Year 9 Peer Leaders and staff working with the new students we will welcome into Year 7 in 2020. These have been very rewarding experiences for involved, so well done to all! The Last act was the final performance for our HSC Drama students prior to their formal examination. Both the group and individual performances were very entertaining and overall were outstanding. I wish all the students the best for the upcoming practical examination. The Robotics Team travelled to Sydney to compete in the RoboCup Championships. CHHS achieved outstanding results - 2nd and 3rd in the Open division for Junior Soccer. Fantastic efforts from the students and well supported by Mr Langley and Ms Rowe. Congratulations! The 'Camden Haven Arts Festival for Students' last week was once again a spectacular showcase of the wonderful talents of the students in our Community of Schools. Once again it was the highlight of our school year and an enjoyable evening. Thank you to the talented and dedicated staff of our Public Education system, and those of our parents and families who are our loyal supporters and help make this and other events such a success. This term students who have been members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) will conclude their current term. I wish to thank all of them for their dedication and support of the many initiatives of the SRC over the past twelve months. Being members of the SRC, they have been challenged to do their best, volunteered their time and talents to help others, and to develop lasting and positive relationships with all members of our school community. I would also like to thank Mr Wilkinson and Ms Woodhouse for the leadership and guidance they have provided to all students. I would encourage all students in all years to consider nominating to represent their year group in the elections which will be held later this term. Year 11 students should also be considering nominating to take on the challenge of applying to be a school leader, and I am keen to hear how each of the nominees will go about taking on this task when they address the whole school in two weeks. Yesterday we had a special Italian guest come to our class, Alessandro Ganci. Alessandro is an exchange student from Palermo, Sicily. He is visiting Australia and attending our school for 5 months. We interviewed him and our class discovered that Alessandro starts school at 8am and has one break in the school day and finishes the day by going home to lunch. Every day he has pasta for lunch and in the afternoon he has an expresso. Dinner is generally later after 9pm. Alessandro made a Caprese salad that students tasted. It was a simple salad with buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, tomato, pepper and olive oil. It was delizioso! Grazie Alessandro. If you meet Alessandro in the playground, say Ciao and make him feel welcome at Camden Haven High School. CHAFFSThe annual Camden Haven Arts Festival For Schools (CHAFFS) was held at our school in Week 5. We saw incredible performances from local schools, including our Year 7 and 9 dance students. HSC Dance StudentsCongratulations to all of our HSC face-to-face and Distance Education Dance students who have completed 80% of their HSC Dance examinations. Over weeks 4 and 5, dance students presented the practical component of the HSC. All of our students were extremely happy with the HSC Dance practical examination experience. They are to be commended on their diligence leading up to the exams. Our face-to-face students were even treated to our local blue tongue lizard visitor during an examination which provided a great deal of discussion, excitement and laughs for our examiners. Our face-to-face students were also completing their HSC trials for all of their other subjects whilst doing their actual HSC Dance exam, which just goes to show that our dancers are adaptable and able to multitask. Well done to everyone involved! A big thank you to Ms Eggert and Ms Border for their organisation and support of our students. Prior to their actual HSC Dance Practical examinations, the Dance students presented some of their works at "The Last Dance", which undoubtedly was wonderful preparation for their exams. Learning Hub Staff Gather for TrainingLearning Hubs are a great place for DE students to access extra support, encouragement and socialise with other students who are also studying via the Distance Education mode of Learning. The learning hub staff recently spent two days in professional learning at Camden Haven High along with the area coordinators, Head Teachers and Deputy Principal of DE. Staff updated skills in CPR, attended a session on raising resilient children, discussed the upcoming DE Camp and worked together to ensure a level of consistency across the Learning Hubs. One of the Learning Hub staff members was heard to say 'It was a tiring couple of days, but very productive'.
