Ngā Tapuwae, the Footprints, is the newsletter of Archives New Zealand. It tells the stories of our people, our work and achievements.
Kia ora and welcome to this special edition of Ngā Tapuwae.
Today we are pleased to launch the Archives 2057 discussion document which is the first major step in developing a long-term strategy for Archives New Zealand.
This document poses questions that we would like your feedback on.
Your ideas and feedback are crucial to help us develop our long-term strategy. It’s vital that everyone shares their views and has input into our future.
Why are we taking such a long term view?
The national archive needs to be focused on the long term to ensure the record of government is available in the future.
As we face the challenges of the born-digital era, our performance as a regulator now has a major impact on government’s information assets into the future.
These challenges impact information managers, iwi, researchers, academics, community archivists and our own staff.
Our stakeholders are asking us to step up and take a stronger leadership role.

We are using the Government Online Engagement Tool which has been developed by our Government Information Services colleagues at DIA.
We are looking to gather input from a wide range of people, so please feel free to forward on these details to others who may be interested.
The tool is designed to make it easy for you to provide your feedback and it supports the principles of open and transparent government.
We have scheduled meetings over the 10th – 14th October in Auckland Central, Mangere, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin if you would like to discuss your feedback or ask questions about the work to date.
Please and provide your feedback by 5pm on Friday 4th November 2016.
If you prefer to email a submission, or wish to attend a meeting, please email Archives2057@dia.govt.nz
The next regular quarterly issue of Ngā Tapuwae will be out soon and I will keep you up to date as the strategy work continues.
