Private CoverYou can elect to be treated and admitted as a private patient in a public hospital. If you elect to be admitted as a private patient in a public hospital you are not able to have your procedure done any quicker as public hospital waiting list policy categories still apply. The time frame of your procedure is determined by your specialist during consultation based on the severity of your symptoms and is in accordance by a strict Public Hospital Waitlist policy that is based on the clinical need for your procedure.
If you elect to use your private cover you will get the specialist of your choice. Hospital and medical costs will be charged to your private health insurance but does depend on your level of cover/policy. Please check with your Private Health Insurer prior to admission to ensure you are appropriately covered.
Public Cover (Medicare)You can elect to be admitted as a public patient even if you are privately insured however you cannot choose who does your procedure even if you were consulted privately. The time frame of your procedure is determined by your specialist during consultation based on the severity of your symptoms and is in accordance by a strict Public Hospital Waitlist policy that is based on the clinical need for your procedure.
As a public patient you will be treated at no charge. These costs are covered by Medicare.
