What Should Patients Know About Penile Shortening?

Men should be aware that some medical procedures cause penile shortening, experts report.

Penis size is highly important for many men, who consider a larger penis to be a sign of greater virility and strength.  A shorter penis can make them feel insecure and less masculine.

In a review paper published last December in Sexual Medicine Reviews, scientists discussed the impact that three urological procedures - inflatable prosthesis implantation, Peyronie's disease treatments, and radical prostatectomy - might have on penile length.

They recommended counseling for men undergoing these procedures to prepare them for potential length loss.

New in the VJPU!

The latest posting in the Video Journal of Prosthetic Urology (VJPU) is now available online.

"Sub-Rectus Penile Implant Reservoir Placement in a Transplant Kidney & Pancreas Patient" was produced by Tariq S. Hakky, Anthony C. Davis, and Audrey Alexander of Advanced Urology in Georgia, USA.

As the name suggests, the VJPU focuses on prosthetic urology, especially as it pertains to sexual medicine. Novel technologies and "how I do it" surgical expositions are of special interest.

We encourage you to check out all the VJPU videos here.
