Now that our Icelandic Odyssey 2015 is history, we are preparing for a couple of cool events: NECCC and PPSNY in a couple of weeks.

Here are a few fun nuggets from our visit to Iceland:

1. The veteranarians were on strike for higher pay. It appears that veteranarians inspect all meat and fish imports and exports. We learned this when Sue ordered a fish dish and was told that there were no fish. Naturally, being on a fisherman's island, we inquired.

2. Arctic terns are very aggressive in protecting their nests. When we would approach a nesting area, one would fly overhead, then many soon follow suit and before you know it, they are dive bombing us, releasing their bowels on us, and making an ungodly sound which triggers an adrenaline rush. Solution? Learn to live with it.

3. We learned and saw that there is a world of difference between Icelandic wool and imported wool. Sue and I both bought native woven sweaters. They're great.

4. After seeing mind blowing image after mind blowing image from Raggi, I decided to add the Sony A7rII camera and a few Sony/Zeiss lenses when the camera comes out in August.

5. We had a couple of drone shooters on this tour, so not being impressionable, I'm getting a drone to start playing around with next week.

6. I really didn't mind the very sparse or NO internet on Flatey Island for a couple of days.

7. Pastel sunsets do literally go on for hours.

8. The banks in Iceland have iMac workstations.

9. While having our farewell dinner at a pretty obscure restaurant in a small coastal town, a photographer from Brazil recognized me from books and DVDs that he bought. He introduced himself, then had our picture taken. He and his wife were the only other people in the restaurant.

Our September, 2016 Icelandic Odyssey "Aurora Madness" tour is in the works. If interested in being placed on our e-mail notification list, please email Sue.

White skies are a known issue in image making as there's nothing there, but a huge white hole. My opinion of white skies has "evolved" 180 degrees. Now, with the advent of the creative use of textures, I find white skies a clean palette for texturing, as you see in the lead image.

It really doesn't matter what color the texture is in regards to a sky. When texturing is used, the image becomes subjective and non-representational, opening up a whole new pathway to creativity.
