Intensive Danish Classes for those who wish to learn Danish fast and efficiently

The International Centre in cooperation with LærDansk is offering 2-week long intensive courses at the University Campus. These courses are targeted to foreign PhD students and staff members; as well as their spouses. The next course will take place during weeks 23 and 24 (June 3 - June 14). Remember that these courses are also a great opportunity for networking with other internationals while learning Denmark's official language.

Take advantage of this opportunity and get the process started as soon as possible. Here is what you have to do:

The Municipality has etablished a new rule, therefore, you must obtain a referral from Jobcenter Aarhus before being able to enrol. You may do this by sending an email to Tove Sørensen or going to their office; the address is:

Opening hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 to 15:00 and Thursday 8:00 to 17:00

Connect via Wybra Network

Wybra network is an open network which facilitates meetings between people who do not necessarily know each other, but live in the same area and have the same interests.

You are able to create your own activities, such as a morning run, a potluck dinner or visit to a museum. Wybra is connected to Google Maps so people in your local area will easily find your activity and sign up if they also want to go for a morning run or a visit to the local museum.

At Wybra you can be as active as you like. You can join activities or create your own whenever it suits you.

See the comming activities on their webpage.

Why join a club or association in Denmark?

A number of organizations (International Community amongst them) made a video about why you should join a club or an association in Denmark. You can watch internationals living in Aarhus telling about the advantages by joining a club or association in Denmark.

Associations can be the entrance to an incipient social life for internationals. The Danish associations can also be the key to establishing a network and settle in well in Denmark.

Help us get in contact with your landlord

New international colleagues are always arriving at Aarhus University and they all face the common and sometimes daunting problem of finding a place to call home. For this reason, if you are leaving and have enjoyed staying in your apartment, then we need your help to encourage your landlord to contact us. This, in order to try help fill the vacancy that you leave behind with another AU international colleague. Read more about this way to help a fellow international here or get your landlord to contact the International Housing Office via their website.

UPDATE on last month's news item: International Guest Researchers Support now available at BSS and HE

On last month's newsletter, it was erroneously mentioned that the International Guest Researchers Support was able to provide assistance with housing matters. The Service is able to provide assistance with permits, registrations and insurance, however, not housing. In the links for the Guest Researchers Support you may find the details of this service. Please see the updated news item below.

The International Guest Researchers Support is a service that provides assistance with the relevant permits, registrations and insurance for guest researchers at AU. In addition, the service informs the guests about what is offered to internationals at AU (International Centre, University International Club, networking, etc.). To ensure a safe and reliable service, this service was launched for the faculty of Science and Technology and the faculty of Arts during the month of January, 2013. During March of 2013, the service became available for hosts and guest at the faculty of Health and the faculty of Business and Social Sciences. Read more about the specific coverage and limitations of this service in this news item or in our webpage.
