Thank you to our 2018 fundraisers

Our best year yet!
We have had an incredible array of wonderful fundraisers taking part in challenges over the past six months and would like to thank you all for your enthusiasm, determination and endurance! With your help, we have doubled the number of people attending support groups!

Georgie Church braved the extreme heat and the London Marathon raising an extraordinary £7,750! Sisters Eleanor and Jessie Broad ran the Edinburgh half marathon in just over two hours raising £670. Paul and Freddie Clark took part in the Blenheim Palace Triathlon raising over £560. Nick Fell raised awareness of Posterior Cortical Atrophy and an incredible £6,550 by walking the Coast to Coast challenge across Britain from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay on the Yorkshire coast, in memory of his wife Jan. Jon Williams cycled and hiked the length of Wales, north to south from Holyhead to Chepstow over 235 miles raising £1,500.
In 2010 Kiran Fothergill’s aunt was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia -  in support of her he ran the Reykjavik Marathon raising awareness and £4,850 for the fund.

"I take great strength from her resolve and bravery in combating such a terrible affliction so resolutely for so long. She has always been the rock in our family" Kiran Fothergill

William Lowe ran an extraordinary 100km through the Wye Valley Challenge for research into FTD, gaining 10th place out of 314 runners with a time of 13hrs 8minutes and raising £2,320! Chris Twydell, Alex Harris, Roberto and Antonio Tella aka The Tough Brothers ran the Tough Mudder obstacle race to raise awareness for frontotemporal dementia and £1,730. Brother and sister Jordan and Katie Pegg conquered The Great North Run to show their support for their father who is living with frontotemporal dementia. They raised £2,830. Rob Perry who is a volunteer Regional Facilitator for Rare Dementia Support ran his first half marathon in the (very rainy) Royal Parks. Congratulations to him on two counts as he has also written an e-book 'Picking Away: Mum's Journey through Frontotemporal Dementia' about his experience as a carer for his mother - the e-book is available here for just 99p.

We would also like to give enormous thanks to Mark Bentley who has just completed his incredible year of running challenges for Rare Dementia Support. This year alone Mark has taken part in the Brentwood Half Marathon, the London Vitality 10k, the gruelling Thames Towpath Ultra Challenge 100k, the Royal Parks Half Marathon and to finish off the year he ran the Dublin Marathon raising £3,225 in total.  This has been a phenomenal effort and Mark's family have been there at all the events to cheer him along the way! Thank you!

Please feel free to contact us if you have ideas for fundraising events or would just like to discuss a challenge, we're here to support you through whatever event you choose.
