In 2019, the AGC coordinated 90 HDR training and information sessions, comprising 46 unique activities drawing just over 3,000 attendees, in-person and online. Of these, 32 sessions were live streamed and 23 are available on-demand via MyUni. Our most popular workshops were Presenting your Research with Confidence, How to Plan your PhD, and the newly introduced Working with your Supervisor. Online participation is thriving with nearly a quarter of total attendees tuning in via livestream and over 2,000 activities completed in the MyUni course alone this year. Students self-recorded a further 3,600 experiential activities in CaRST Online, showing how engaged students are in their own professional development. The Integrated Bridging Program- Research (IBP-R) relaunched as International Career and Research Skills Training, iCaRST, in 2019. Through improved integration with CaRST, all students now have access to training on planning, writing, and designing your research project. We had another successful run of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, with 119 students officially vying for the title of best presenter in the University of Adelaide competition. University winner Jessica Bohorquez went on to win the Asia Pacific competition, becoming our first University of Adelaide champion. Eighteen PhD students were selected to participate in the 2019-2020 Industry Mentoring Network in STEM (IMNIS) program. This exclusive program provides one year of mentoring with a local industry leader in the MedTech Pharma and Energy Resources fields. The Adelaide Graduate Centre also launched a professional development series for early career researchers, offering both joint events with HDRs and several dedicated ECR-only events. Doing an HDR has been described as a roller coaster with lots of up and downs. No matter where you might be on the ride, take time to reflect on what went well this year rather than what didn’t. Take pride in your achievements, big and small, and use this fuel you into the new year and closer to the finish line. With best wishes, Dr Monica Kerr Director, CaRST EventsWriting your Research Proposal, Part 2 Need help with writing your research proposal?
