How to Stop Annoying and Unwanted Telemarketer Calls

Hi

I was having dinner with my nanna a few days ago, and I kid you not, she had received over 10 phone calls whilst I was there from people wanting to sell her all sorts of things from security alarms, solar systems, surveys, to life insurance!

As you could imagine, it was driving her crazy!

If you're having the same issues, the Australian Government has created a website which enables you to help block these types of calls.

All you need to do is visit https://www.donotcall.gov.au and enter your details.  It's that simple.

Please note though, some groups (including charaties, research companies, political parties and educational institutions) can be exempt from the DoNotCall Register.

I hope this helps you have a nice hot, and uninterrupted dinner, just like it has done for my nanna! ;)

Kind regards,

Kevin Clarke

PS,  Still no signs of our little baby coming yet!  We'll keep you posted. :)

Does this home PC look like a Fire Hazard?

Answer:  YES.

Your computer, laptop, or Macs is designed to suck in the cool air, to keep your computer from overheating.

Unfortunately, along with the cooler air comes dust.

Even though everything look can ok on the outside, it's actually the excess dust that builds up in your PC cause severe data loss, slowness, crashes, freezes, irreversible hardware damage, and become a fire risk.

.

Unfortunately, it's the dust and fluff that floats in the air that gets trapped inside your fans that causes the most amount of damage.

The best thing you can do to help keep your PC clean is to keep it off the floor, and to avoid accidental static & physical damage to your PC by having it professionally checked and cleaned when you get your computer serviced (which we recommend at least every 6-12 months).

If you need help, or it's been longer than 12-months since you've had your computer serviced, let us know and we'll take care of it for you.

How to Avoid the Top-10 Most Common Computer Problems

Here's a few tips to help you prevent the most common (yet easily avoidable) computer disasters:

  1. Backup Your Files - Backup your files regularly to a USB hard drive is a quick and easy way to help protect you from any unexpected data loss.  For even greater protection, keep your backup stored safely offsite.  This will ensure you're always protected against fire, theft, vandalism, or floods.
  2. Regularly Test Your Backup - Did you know fully testing your backup is even more important than actually backing up!  Do not wait until it's too late to find out there was a problem with your backup should your computer or hard drive crash.
  3. Protect Your PC from Irreversible Hardware Damage - A good quality Uninterruptable Power Supply will save you hundreds or in some cases thousands of dollars in damage and data corruptions caused by power surges, spikes, brown-outs, line noise, and lightning strikes.  If you don't have a UPS installed you must turn off your computer and unplug it from the wall during any electrical storms.
  4. Install the best Antivirus Package - Unfortunately, no antivirus or spyware program can provide you with 100% protection.  It's therefore important that before you ever renew your current antivirus package, check if there is a better package that offers more protection.  Also beware of downloading internet security packages that do not cost anything unless you know or trust the program.  Many of them are fake and can cause more problems than the viruses they are supposed to remove!
  5. Keep Windows Updated - Microsoft regularly release important updates to provide additional security for your computer.
  6. Overheating - A common cause of irreversible hardware damage is caused by excess dust and fluff that gets sucked inside your computer and fans.  Once your CPU fan has become blocked, your computer will overheat and will cause your computer to run slower, and then eventually cause severe hardware damage and data loss.
  7. Reduce your Internet Bills - Regularly check that your current Internet Service Provider (ISP) hasn't brought out a newer, faster, cheaper, plan with a bigger download limit.  Just be sure to check the fine print to ensure that you will not incur any plan change fees, or contract renewal if you decide to change.
  8. Password Security - Choose secure passwords that are hard to guess, but easy to remember!  As much as it is a pain, always use a different password for each website or service you sign up too.
  9. Avoid Illegal Software, Movies, Music, and Adult Content - Many viruses, spyware, and hackers use these websites to try and gain access to your computer, files, or internet banking details.
  10. Get Your Computer Serviced - Just like getting your car serviced, getting your computer regularly serviced will allow you to get those small issues fixed before they turn into bigger, more expensive problems in the future.
