Happy new year!

We would like to again thank you for your continued support and loyalty to the International Society for Sexual Medicine. It is you, the membership community, who drives and shapes the ISSM.

In order to ensure that you will have uninterrupted access to all of ISSM's membership benefits, including the Journal of Sexual Medicine, we kindly ask you to pay your ISSM membership dues for 2018 in a timely manner either through one of our affiliated societies or directly with us through our website's Members Only page.

Just click on your profile page to view the invoice section. While you're there, please take a moment to update your contact information, if it has changed.

Please note that members interested in voting at the next ISSM business meeting should renew their membership and submit payment by February 1, 2018. The business meeting will be held March 2, 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal during the World Meeting on Sexual Medicine, which is jointly organized by the ISSM and the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM).

Of course, if you have already paid your membership dues, we thank you.

Obesity and Sexual Health

The impact of obesity on sexual health has both physical and psychological effects, according to a recent paper in Sexual Medicine Reviews.

However, weight loss strategies might help.

Researchers analyzed data from biomedical, physiologic, and psychological databases to learn more about the relationship between weight and sex.

They described the ways adipose (fat) tissue can affect sexual response. For example, adipose tissue can alter levels of nitric oxide, leading to erection problems in men.

Depression and anxiety related to obesity can also contribute to sexual dysfunction.

More information on the study, including the authors' suggestions for future research, is available here.

January Journals Now Online

Please note that the January 2018 editions of two ISSM journals are now available online.

This month's Journal of Sexual Medicine includes articles on basic science, female sexual dysfunction, epidemiology, paraphilias, transgender health, and much more.

In addition, this quarter's Sexual Medicine Reviews brings you evidence-based reviews on a variety of topics of interest to sexual health practitioners.

Don't forget that you can use the convenient ISSM Journals app for iOS and Android devices when you're on the go.
