Important News!!Happy fall (almost)! We’re coming to the year and a half mark of online teaching and are so grateful to be able to see so many of you week after week on Zoom. Our community is what has always made Tucson Yoga what it is – a place in which we can collectively explore what it means to be conscious, and conscientious, human beings. We’re writing to you today to share some updates on the studio. Like so many local businesses, Tucson Yoga has been working very hard to remain open for the community and is coming to a critical juncture. We have remained almost entirely online, versus restarting in-person classes, because we are sensitive to the delicate and sacred interdependence of life and believe that the most yogic and responsible thing we can do is to continue to offer remote yoga to our community. However, our costs have continued to mount while our studio space has continued to decline. We have been surviving – if barely – and now it’s time to turn to you, our TY community, to see if you can help us to thrive! We are deeply committed to continuing to offer affordable, accessible, and deeply inclusive yoga to our community but now we need your help. We are writing to share with you that we are (1) Seeking input into your vision for Tucson Yoga’s next five years; and (2) Specifically beginning to dream about a new studio space for Tucson Yoga. We have a couple of immediate “asks” and an exciting community event coming up that we hope very much you’ll participate in! Our ask: We need help locating and negotiating an appropriate new space for Tucson Yoga. Our commitment remains to serve both downtown, south, and west sides of Tucson and to remain affordable and accessible to all who would like to participate in studio yoga. This means we’d like to have safe routes and storage and parking for both bicycles and cars as well as remaining accessible to pedestrians. We would also like to have a studio large enough that we can keep prices competitive. This will only happen, of course, once it’s safe for our community to gather together again in-person. And now, the fun part! We are inviting you to a community Zoom party on Saturday, September 25, 2:00-3:30 (Registration is
required, $0, as a precaution against zoom bombing) We’ll take your dreams, visions, suggestions and offers of help for Tucson Yoga in whatever format you’d like to offer them. We also thought that – while we’re envisioning the future – it would be fun and meaningful to collectively remember the past of Tucson Yoga together! So, we’re inviting you to remember and write down your stories or memories of Tucson Yoga and to share those, to the degree with which you’re comfortable, at the party. Teachers will go first! (And not to give away any spoilers, but there’s been at least one marriage proposal associated with Tucson Yoga and at least a dozen times that folks stumbled into TY asking to use the bathroom while class was ongoing… ) We also envision the party as an opportunity for everyone to offer their thoughts and suggestions on Tucson Yoga’s next five years, because we want to have another five years with you! More details will be coming soon. In the meantime, we invite you to start reminiscing about your favorite memories of Tucson Yoga. Thank you for your love and solidarity, Tucson Yoga Community!
