1. More than 150 ill in Spanish Listeria outbreak; deaths reported

The number of people affected by a Listeria outbreak in Spain has jumped to almost 150. The outbreak is linked to chilled roast pork. Previously 44 people were reported to be sick, with half of them treated in hospital.

2. Listeria outbreak in Canada linked to frozen chicken; recall underway

Public health officials in Canada posted a Public Health Notice today regarding an outbreak of Listeria infections linked to frozen cooked chicken. The outbreak has hospitalized 85 percent of victims.

3. Philippines checks for African swine fever as pig deaths rise, as Myanmar confirms African Swine Fever incident

The Philippines has set up a crisis management team to determine if the deadly African swine fever virus has reached the country after officials detected a rise in pig deaths in some areas. Elsewhere, Myanmar has become the latest country to have a confirmed incident of African Swine Fever (ASF).

6. Fresh basil consumption likely responsible for 205 Cyclospora infections in 11 states

Fresh basil exported by Siga Logistics de RL de CV of Morelos, Mexico is under investigation for a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora infections, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.

7. Canadian caviar recall expanded; botulism poisoning risk continues

Last week, Kananaskistrade grained salmon caviar was recalled from the marketplace as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) urged consumers to not eat the product because of concerns about botulism poisoning.

9. Scientists warn too much flaxseed could cause cyanide poisoning
