Ryota Aoki, Ceramic Artist
Ryota Aoki

Ryota Aoki is a ceramic artist based in the Gifu prefecture of Japan.  He has been working with ceramics for over 20 years and is an expert on glazes. He works with colors as well as metallics in unique combinations that have become the trademark of his work.  He's an award winning ceramicist and has also helped establish Ikeyan, a group of young Japanese potters that he now oversees.

His latest works will be on display at our New York location until January 7th.

Native Line Wall Hangings
Justine Ashbee

Native Line presents new forms in woven precious metals, golds, and silvers. Justine Ashbee fashioned a career through her line drawings, from which she took a hiatus to open a Seattle arts and culture spot, Cairo. She has since left Cairo to return to her wave inspired artwork. After spending several months in the desert of the Southwest, the landscape that most speaks to her, her light inspired visions unraveled in new woven forms. Native Line consists of one off woven wall hangings, all of which stem from her early explorations in weaving metal sculptures, as a textiles student, at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Inspired by the timeless motifs of indigenous woven craft work, Justine combines geometric lines with shimmering metals, to create luminary pieces of woven art.

Glithero Blueware

Glithero are British designer Tim Simpson and Dutch designer Sarah van Gameren, who met and studied at the Royal College of Art. From their studio in London they create product, furniture, and time-based installations that give birth to unique and wonderful products. The work is presented in a broad spectrum of media, but follows a consistent conceptual path; to capture and present the beauty in the moment things are made.

In the past year Glithero has presented solo shows in London, Paris and Rotterdam, as well as exhibitions in Milan, Berlin and Basel. In 2011 the studio had been shortlisted for the Brit Insurance Award and the Dutch Design Awards.

Glithero's Blueware collection of ceramics with cyanotypes, is created through a process of capturing direct impressions of botanical specimens on earthenware, using photosensitive chemicals resulting in a photogram of the specimen in intense Prussian blue. What remains is a crisp white silhouette of the specimen, creating an intricate impression of the subject from root to tip.
