It was with much pleasure that I was able to announce to the school our student leaders for 2021 – 2022 this week. Our Captains are Jasmine O’Brian and Mia Bales with Sasha Arnberger and Lloyd Marquet as Vice Captains. Congratulations to these students and I know they will all have the potential to be inspiring leaders for our student population. Thank you also to all those who nominated for a position. Nominations and election of House Captains will take place this term.
Our Year 12 students continue with their preparation for the HSC examinations during this extended StuVac. Many are attending to have tutorial sessions with their teachers. They have demonstrated great resilience during this year, coping with the challenges they have faced, whilst still completing major projects, portfolios and practical exams. The HSC begins on Tuesday 9th November.
There has been a slight easing of the restrictions for students in regard to mask wearing and while they remain compulsory inside, they are not compulsory outside, now being recommended only. There has been no easing of any other restrictions.
We set high expectations for all our students and school attendance rates of greater than 90% are included in our School Improvement Plan for this year and the next three years. Attendance at school is a priority for all schools across the state and it is important that all our students attend everyday as Every Day Counts. A good education provides a sound base to improve all areas of life including career aspiration as well as social and emotional wellbeing. So let all here at Camden Haven High School make sure Every Day Counts.
The planned Transition Day for Year 6 students will occur on Tuesday 23rd November, with strict guidelines. These include different start and finish times and also alternate break times for the visiting Year 6 students. A timetable for the day will be distributed to schools and buses will be organised to collect students from their primary schools and return them at the conclusion of activities, in time to catch buses. Only students who have submitted their completed enrolment forms, with all supporting documentation will be allowed to attend and take part in the activities on the day. The restrictions in place for non-essential personnel being allowed onsite remain in place, so parents are not able to attend during the day and there will be no evening meeting for parents.
This term is a busy one with examinations for Years 7 to 10 and the first assessment task for students who have just begun their HSC courses. I look forward to another successful term. I thank you all for your support of our students in their learning and wellbeing.
