Aquatic centre closes to make way for water park

The Gladstone Aquatic Centre toddler's pool area will close on Tuesday, April 16 to allow for major upgrade works to progress.

Sport and Recreation portfolio spokesperson Councillor Graham McDonald said the current water play park would be removed to make way for a lagoon style interactive water play area that includes a revamped toddler's pool with educational water play areas.

"The upgrades will offer residents a rejuvenated area for children and families to spend time together," Councillor McDonald said.

During the construction period there will be interruptions to the Gladstone Aquatic Centre's operation, but these will be temporary in most cases.

It is anticipated that the new water play area will open in November 2013.

Council continues animal inspection program

Local Law enforcement officers continue to conduct house-to-house visits as part of Council's six month animal inspection program.

Since the commencement of the program in January, Council has received double the registration of animals than in other months.

The program is successfully progressing with the Boyne Island and Tannum Sands area completed and a total of 158 notices issued to residents to register their animals. Officers will target the Barney Point and Toolooa areas next.
