Enough of the introductory, what has Growing Gourmet and the team been up to of late? Well, it has been an exciting and busy year so far with milestones popping up constantly for the team.

Milestone #1: Joining Growing Forces

This is the first year that both Southern Woods Nursery and Southern Cross Truffles have joined forces. It was smooth sailing with successful infection and independent testing of not only our usual Ilex and Robur oak and the Hazel but also two pine species. This means a wider variety of growing conditions can now be suitable for growing truffles in New Zealand! Click here to see if where you live could grow truffles.

Milestone #2: Producing Trees

With the huge success of Tracey and Andrew Billingsly, not to mention their amazing dogs, truffles are now being found all over the country from North of Auckland, Napier, Hawkes Bay, Blenheim right through to Canterbury. Trees that were provided by Southern Cross Truffles are now producing, and more importantly, some are getting truffles harvested from them in just 4 years.

Milestone #3: Digging out the truffles

Not only are our clients succeeding but it is now Southern Cross Truffle’s 4th year producing and harvesting truffles and the biggest yet! We have been out seven times so far with black truffles being found each time, and we are only half way through August. Now with our own dog, Digger, in full operation with his handler Jax Lee, Growing Gourmet – SCT is providing some of the top restaurants across this country with fresh Black Truffle so be sure to look out for it on menus.
